Professor Chun Jin-woo receives Inchon Award Professor Chun Jin-woo of Department of Chemistry won prestigious 2010 Inchon Award (Science Category) due to his contributions to medical technology by applying Nano-technology to medical visuals and therefore discovering cancerous cells earlier in advance. This year’s Inchon Award recipients also included Lee Nyoung-dong, former Dong-A Ilbo Vice Editor (Publication & Journalism Category); Kim Jung-sik, Daeduk Electronics CEO (Technology); and Kim Chun-joo, Daehan Housewife Club President (Community Services Category). The award ceremony was held on October 11 at Lotte Hotel, where the recipients received 100,000,000 won and medals as prizes. Professor Chun is famous globally as a Nano-technology researcher. His research regarding Nano particles covers its qualities and applications. In 2001 and 2002, Professor Chun received global attention by his research on how to form different shapes such as square, star and pole with Nano particles. His research was published in major science journals, such as American Chemistry Journal and Science. and has since become a star of his own in the global chemistry field. He did not limit his research to understanding the particles and to operate them. He broadened his research to cancer cells and Nano techonology, focusing on Nano-medical technology. He succeeded in inserting Nano particles into blood vessels and finding diseases this way. He established the unique field of “Nano-Medical Technology” and serves as Editor of the extremely prestigious journal Account of Medical. Professor Chun expressed his joy for receiving the award saying, “I feel star struck…I will make Korea famous in the international science world.”
