Yonsei University School of Nursing celebrates its 100th year anniversary Yonsei University School of Nursing celebrated 100th year anniversary on October 7 at Eun Myoung Grand Hall. The School of Nursing was established in 1906 and pioneered modern nursing methods and education of such methods. The first graduates of the school were in 1910. For its 100th anniversary celebration event, the School celebrated with a special conference on nursing and put on photography exhibitions. The conference theme was “Answering the call of Yonsei University’s Nursing Pioneers”. Professor Lee Man-yul (Sook Myung University), the former editor of Korean History Society, gave a special lecture on history of nursing in Korea. Professor Kwon Sook-in (Seoul National University) also gave a lecture on social meaning of Employment of Nurses to Germany in 1960s, when many nurses were “exported” to Germany for employment venture. It is considered the first time Korea “exported” such large workforce abroad. In the lobby of Severance Hospital, there was a photography exhibition of the 100 Years in Nursing; while at the Yonsei Nursing Historical Museum, exhibitions were held displaying historical artifacts. Dean of the School of Nursing, Kim So-sun, said that “today we not only look back in past but look forward to hundred years in future.”
