: 142nd, QS World University Ranking 160th, Taiwan Higher Education University Ranking 190th, Britain’s The Times World University Evaluation  Yonsei University was ranked as 190th in the 2010 World University Evaluation conducted by Britain's The Times. Furthermore, Yonsei University was ranked 160th in Taiwan Higher Education University Ranking. The Times and Thompson-Reuters, a research evaluation think tank in Canada, evaluated the world’s major universities in the areas of education facilities, research achievements, dissertation and thesis quotations, technology, and global recognition. The Times had originally been collaborating with QS, a research think tank based in Britain, on the evaluation process. However, this year Thompson-Reuters has stepped in instead to collaborate with the evaluation process. On the other hand, on September 9th, “QS World University Evaluation showed that Yonsei University ranked as 142nd. In this evaluation, Yonsei University received the following evaluation scores (scores in parenthesis): Internationalization (28 points), Technology Application/Adoption (40.4), Educational Environment (43), Research Achievements (46.9) and Total Score of 46.9 points. Yonsei University’s Asia ranking was 26th place, and of all the domestic universities, Seoul National University was ranked as 109th internationally and KAIST 79th, and POSTECH 28th. The Times Evaluation ranked Yonsei University as 4th in Korea. This could be due to the trend in the evaluation which gave universities with strong engineering, science & technology programs higher scores in general than universities with combined humanities, social and arts programs. Also, this trend explains why POSTECH is ranked higher than SNU or Yonsei University in the evaluation. Yonsei University was ranked as 2nd domestically in other evaluations, such as Taiwan Higher Education Evaluation, QS World University Evaluation and Shanghai Jiaotong University Evaluation. In The Times Evaluation, of the 200 top universities worldwide, Asian countries whose universities made the 200 cut were Korea (4 universities included in the top 200 list), Japan (5), China (6), Singapore (2), Hong Kong (4), Taiwan (4), and Turkey (2). A total of 27 universities were included in Top 200 list. Harvard University took the first place. Tokyo University was 26th and Hong Kong University was 21st. Furthermore, Yonsei University was ranked as 160th in Taiwan Higher Education World University Evaluation (HEEACT) which was announced on September 16th. Yonsei University was ranked 22nd among Asian universities. HEEACT’s evaluation procedure is based on productivity of research, research influence, and research quality. This ranking is 40 places up from last year’s 200th place. In domestic universities, SNU took 67th, Korea University 278th, KAIST 259th, POSTECH 331st place. Moreover, Yonsei University was ranked as 210th in Shanghai Jiaotong University World 500 Top University ranking. In Chosun Ilbo-QS evaluation, Yonsei was ranked 19th in Asian University Evaluation category.
