Q: How do you feel about transferring from a corporation to a university? A: I feel like I am looking through a telescope. I am not sure if the picture will be good or bad, but I can make a good picture better and definitely improve a bad one. Q. What persuaded you to accept the position of the head director of the Future Fusion Technology Research Institute? A: Corporation management is all about technology. People make technology and those people are the brain powers. I would like to build a format that helps train and make “Da Vinci” style talent. Q. What kind of curriculum do you have in mind? A: Curriculums that allow experiments which simulate products and technology needed in the current market. Technology should be associated with product. The talents trained here will also pursue the highest goals that have never been dreamt, other than just starting their own company or becoming a professor. The brain powers trained here will play a huge role in shaping Korea as a technology leader of the future. Q. What kind of research and education systems do you propose? A: Same systems produce same results everywhere. Everything about the reward system, evaluation system, research and education system will change. In the future, new research & education system will be established. It might take 10 years or 15 years, but the importance is in the process of change. Q. What kind of researches will be conducted here? A: Well, researcher about energy, environment, bio-medical technology, Nano—for example, water and air, age-blocking, diagnosis, and IT, what comes after the “smart” products.
