Special lecture on Life and Love by Former Minister of Culture, Lee O-Ryung On August 31st, Former Minister of Culture, Lee O-Ryung gave us a special lecture at Yonsei. His lecture title was “Future Founded on Life and Love”. He lectured about the need to think seriously about life, emphasizing that “young people in Korea need to understand life, wisdom, and love before learning knowledge.” He also shared with students that “After becoming ill, I realized there was so much to love, to know and to discover. Live everyday of your life to its fullest.” He further said that “people are born with inherent wisdom, but they lose it once they start to learn knowledge.” He criticized the current education system that only teaches and emphasizes short term knowledge. He equated life with love and said that “the more knowledge we acquire, the less love we feel”. The lecture hall was filled with students and fans. After the lecture, crowds of people gathered to receive his autograph on many of his books.
