[YONSEI NEWS] President of Keio University, Mayor of Incheon Received Honorary Doctorate Degrees

Yonsei University conferred honorary Doctorate degrees to Yuichiro Anzai, the President of Keio University, and Ahn Sang-soo, the mayor of Incheon on 8 May. President Anzai received an honorary Doctorate in Education, and Mayor Ahn an honorary degree in Public Administration. President Anzai was born in Tokyo in 1946, and graduated from Keio University in 1974 with a Ph.D. in Administration Engineering. He was appointed assistant professor at the Department of Administration Engineering at Keio University in 1979 and since then pursued his academic career in various institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University and McGill University. After his inauguration, President Anzai contributed to the development of Keio University, establishing Keio Law School in 2004 and successfully holding the 150th anniversary commemorative ceremony in 2008. He also performed a key role in improving the relationship between Keio and Yonsei University and thus the development of both universities. At present, he is serving as the President of Japan Association of Private Colleges and Universities and President of Federation of All Japan Private Schools Associations. He is also serving as Chairman of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) from 2008 to build a framework for mutual cooperation to develop higher education in Pacific Rim countries. Mayor Ahn was born in Incheon in 1946, and graduated from the Seoul National University Business School. He established the first free economic zone in Korea, and built international business district while serving as the Mayor of Incheon. He also contributed to the establishment of Yonsei Songdo Global Acdemic Complex.
