Outstanding Teaching Award Ceremony “I was lucky to take the professor’s class. Even with the same contents, good professors make things easier for students.” The 2008 Outstanding Teaching Award Ceremony for professors who showed excellence in teaching last year was held at Allen Hall on March 23. A total of 114 professors, including 56 professors, 28 assistant professors, 29 associate professors and 1 lecturer were honored. The average point of student lecture evaluation of them all was 4.49 (out of 5.00). Among the awarded professors, professor Park Hong-lee (64, Department of Physics) was the oldest, and professor Lee Hyun-ju (32, Department of Chemical Engineering) was the youngest. There were also professors who were awarded for 3 consecutive years: Professor Mun Chang-ok (Department of Philosophy), Cho Dae-ho (Department of Philosophy), Kim Hyun-joong (Department of Applied Statistics), Lee Ho-uk (School of Business), Kim Jeong-hoon (Department of Mathematics), Kwon Sang-hoon (Department of Earth System Sciences), Baek Il-young (Department of Physical Education). University President Kim Han-joong awarded each of the professors giving warm encouragement. He also said, “Please deliver passion and faith to students as well as deep knowledge and understanding.” The Outstanding Teaching Award was established in 2006 to raise awareness about the importance of teaching and to improve the quality of lectures. The award is given to professors occupying the top 15% in student lecture evaluation from each college.
