The Yonsei main playing field was reborn as an area for physical education and leisure activities. The opening of the field after the installation of artificial lawn was held on November 14. In his congratulatory speech, Yonsei President Kim Han-Joong said, “The Yonsei main playing field was the stage for the development of modern sports in Korea. Also, it served as the training ground for university sports such as soccer and rugby. Now, it has become a space for the larger community, where all are invited to walk, run, and participate in sports to train their minds and bodies. The artificial lawn will help the field serve its new purpose. Additionally, I hope that this will serve as a chance for all Yonseians to come together as one.” Artificial lawn was newly installed over the original dirt field and urethane tracks were installed around the field, in addition to new drainage systems and other enhancements. The project was supported through various government and university funds.
