Day of Graduate Students and International Students On November 11, the “Day of Graduate Students and International Students” event was held. For this event, 150 students, including graduate students and Korean Language Institute students, turned out. The program consisted of two sections. First, the Yonsei graduate school was introduced to students interested in applying, and information regarding application procedures, scholarships, life in Korea, and career choices after graduation were provided. In the second part, Russian and Indian students gave presentations under the theme of “Getting to Know Each Other”. Dean Min Kyungchan of the Graduate School gave the welcoming address, and Dean Ha Yeonseob of the Office of International Affairs gave a congratulatory speech, wishing for the international student’s dreams and hopes to come true at Yonsei. The highlight of the day’s events was the ‘Getting to Know Each Other’ segment, where Russian and Indian students used pictures, photographs, and music to introduce their countries to other students. Participation was encouraged with quizzes, and the audience response was enthusiastic indeed. The Russian students provided information about Russia’s land, population, national flag, and provinces, and gave the audience a chance to listen to the national anthem as well. The presentation ended by singing a song familiar to Koreans which came from Russia. The Indian students took the stage in traditional costumes and explained the pragmatic (IT, technology) and spiritual (yoga, religion) sides of India. Oxana Ten (Korean Studies, Master’s Program), Maria Osetrova (Korean Studies, Doctoral Program), and Ilya Belyakov (Korean Language and Literature, Master’s Program) were the presenters for Russia. They spoke in fluent Korean. “We tried to use visuals rather than language to convey an accurate image of our country, but the time limit did not allow us to show everything. However, we enjoyed the opportunity to introduce Russia to the students.” The presenters from India, Ankur Gaur (Chemical Engineering, Master’s Program) and Sudhakar Nadiu (Chemical Engineering, Doctoral Program) said, “We really worked hard for this presentation. We are happy to have had a chance to help people learn about our country.” After the official events, dinner and raffles were held. In an atmosphere of festivity, the international students were able to come together in friendship and learn about Yonsei and other cultures.
