Korea’s First Job Fair on International Organizations Held at Yonsei Sixteen International Organizations Including IFAD, ILO, UN, UNDP, UNESCO, and WTO Participate Providing Wide Range of Information on International Organizations as Occupational Choice On May 15, the Graduate School of International Studies (Dean: Chang Dae-Ryun) co-hosted the Job Fair for Career Opportunities in the UN Systems with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and UNDP (United Nations Development Program) Korea. The event was sponsored by the JoongAng Ilbo and KBS and provided information regarding employment at international organizations. Speakers were invited from 16 major international organizations including the UN, and many other guests also attended the event, including University President Kim Han-Joong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan, Dean Chang Daeryun, former UNESCAP Executive Secretary Kim Hak-Su, and UNDP Korea Representative Zhe Yang. People began gathering at the venue early in the morning, reflecting the strong interest of the public. A total of 1,500 people participated in the event, and some participants were unable to enter the hall and viewed the proceedings via a screen. In his welcoming speech, President Kim Han-Joong spoke about the importance of international organizations in Korea. “Korea is a good example of how much positive change international organizations are capable of bringing about in a country. Now, with Ban Ki-moon in office, it is our turn to work to make the world a better place.” He also called on the participants to “aspire for the values of peace, development, welfare, and progress together with the UN”. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan explained the objectives of the event in his congratulatory speech and revealed plans to support efforts of Koreans to work in international organizations. Scheduled for the morning were talks given by HR officials of the UN Secretariat, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, UNV, UNESCO, IOM, UNIDO, IFRC, UNHCR, ILO, OHCHR, WHO, WFP, FAO, and IFAD regarding major projects being conducted by each organization and their future plans. In the afternoon, individual sessions were held to give specific information about each organization and allow participants to ask questions.
