Underwood International College Michael Sianipar Yonsei University gives honors to students every semester. Among the students selected this semester, Michael Sianipar of Underwood International College (UIC) became the first Indonesian student to be awarded this honor. Michael came to Korea last September, led by his interest in the dynamic nature of Korea and the globalized education provided by UIC. From his first semester in Fall 2007, Michael achieved high grades even before he had fully adjusted to life in Korea. Except for one A, Michael’s grades were all A+’s, making his GPA 4.25/4.3. In Indonesia, Michael finished the twelve-year curriculum in ten years and was awarded a full scholarship in high school. It wasn’t easy for a young student to follow the UIC courses, which were conducted in English, not his native tongue, but Michael was able to achieve outstanding results due to his determination and perseverance. His four siblings are all currently studying abroad, with his older sister and two older brothers studying in the U.S., China, and Singapore with scholarships. In Spring 2008, Michael served as the President of the Underwood International Student Committee and helped both the foreign and Korean students of UIC. He hopes to major in Politics and International Relations and plans to become a political leader of Indonesia and a leader of the future of East Asia. Michael was awarded top honors on May 28.
