Principal Park Sook-Ja (School of Education, entering class of 1965) lists therapeutic education as the school’s biggest achievement. “The difference between our school and other schools is our education based on consultations with and directions from professional doctors. The departments of rehabilitation, orthopedics, pediatrics, and dentistry in Severance Hospital have made it possible for us to provide the best environment for the healthy lives of our children.” Principal Park was also pleased with the new school building. “This is the biggest change the school has seen in its 43 years. I am very happy that our students will now have a pleasant environment with new facilities and plenty of space.” Principal Park also added, “Our school provides individualized education that is tailored to the needs of individual students. Our biggest focus is communication, because 90 percent of our students are not able to communicate verbally. To help these students express themselves, we use various programs and equipment such as pictures, symbols, letters, the Alpha Talker, and tablet PCs.” Pricipal Park had high hopes for the future of the school. “Among our graduates are Professor Kim Hee-Sook of Sookmyung Women’s University, Professor Chung Yoo-Sun of George Mason University, and National Human Rights Commission of Korea official Ahn Sang-Hee. With the fine educational environment provided by the new building, our future looks even brighter.”
