Yonsei University Short-Term Exchange Program Popular with Foreign Students The Office of International Affairs (Dean : Ha Yeonseob) and the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs established a new program which allows students to convert credits earned at Yonsei University to their degree requirement at Indiana University. The program was introduced for the first time this year. The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs is one of the top institutions in the field of public affairs, tying for the second place with the John F. Kennedy School of Harvard University in 2008 ranking. The students enrolled in Indiana University’s Scholars in Global Citizenship course came to Yonsei for a ten-day program from May 14 to 24. The students were chaperoned by Professor Matthew Auer and staff member Lewis Stephanie and attended six lectures on the Korean government reform, North-South relations, and environmental policy. A group interview with Korean experts and various extra-curricular activities to experience various aspects of Korean society were included in the program. The students had prepared for this visit since March, building a foundation of basic knowledge about Korea and selecting specific topics on which to conduct research in Korea and write reports. The professors and students who participated in the program expressed great satisfaction regarding the lectures and field trips, showing strong interest in continuing the program in following years. The short-term exchange program of the Office of International Affairs is a program that is tailored to the needs and requirements of the participating universities. The program first began by conducting the Global Semester of St. Olaf University in 1996 and has evolved to accommodate exchange opportunities with other major universities worldwide. In 2008, 185 students from seven universities including Keio University of Japan, Indiana University of the U.S., and the University of Hong Kong, demonstrating the global demand for the innovative incoming exchange program provided by Yonsei.
