Fifteen Students Expected – Largest Assignment Among All Institutions Yonsei University was selected as the largest hosting institution for the “2008 Korean Government Scholarship Undergraduate Program for Foreign Students”, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the National Institute for International Education Development. Yonsei University was assigned 15 students due to our outstanding program for international students and educational environment suitable for continued infrastructure establishment. This is the largest assignation among the 20 hosting institutions. The Korean Government Scholarship Undergraduate Program for Foreign Students is a program in which the National Institute for International Education Development selects foreign students who wish to study in Korea and assigns them to Korean universities. The students will go through a five year program, consisting of a one-year language program and four-year bachelor’s degree program. The Korean government will provide tuition, airfare, living expenses, research expenses, and medical insurance, while Yonsei will provide the best Korean language program in the world and a fine undergraduate education, along with 70 percent of the Korean Language Institute tuition, 50 percent of the dormitory fees for five years, and the entire admission fee. Director Jo Joon-Sik of the Office of International Affairs explained the importance of the program for Yonsei. “This program will augment our efforts for ‘Inbound Globalization’ at Yonsei. It will also be a good opportunity for Yonsei to make known our academic prowess in the international community and encourage more highly-qualified foreign students to come and study at Yonsei.” Canadian Ambassador to Korea Ted Lipman Donates Microfiche Canadian Ambassador to Korea Ted Lipman donated microfiche worth 25 million won to Yonsei University.
