For Research on Aromaticity of Möbius Molecules A paper from the research team of Professor Kim Dongho (Chemistry) was selected as the cover article and VIP (Very Important Paper) of the prestigious chemistry journal Angewandte Chemie. This designation signifies that the article is an epoch-making one which will have an affect on the research of many scientists. Angewandte Chemie is known as a journal with a high Impact Factor. Professor Kim’s paper, titled “Metalation of Expanded Porphyrins: A Chemical Trigger Used to Produce Molecular Twisting and Möbius Aromaticity”, was published in the January 11, 2008 issue of the Angewandte Chemie International Edition. The research for this paper, conducted in collaboration with Professor Atsuhiro Osuka of the Kyoto University Department of Chemistry, focused on Möbius compounds, the existence of which was first proposed by a German chemist in 1964. Professor Kim’s team had given presentations on the subject beginning late last year and had been the focus of much interest from chemists around the world. Professor Kim also published an article titled “Möbius Aromaticity in N-Fused [24]Pentaphyrin upon Rh(I) Metalation” in the February 2008 issue of the Journal of American Chemical Society Communication. Professor Kim Dongho: 220 SCI Articles and 3,900 Citations Named Editorial Board Member of Journal of Physical Chemistry Professor Kim is considered to be the closest to receiving a Nobel Prize among Yonsei professors. He has published 220 SCI articles and has been cited 3,900 times. He is respected as the foremost scientist in Korea, receiving honors such as the Sigma-Aldrich Award and the position of National Scholar. His work with the BK21 Project and the Center for Nano/Bio Molecular Aggregate Research has led to his appointment as Underwood Professor last August. In addition, Professor Kim was named editorial board member of the Journal of Physical Chemistry, a journal published by the prestigious American Chemical Society. He will serve a three-year term which began in January 2008.
