Ranked 106th Internationally for Number of SCI Articles According to the June 27 Ministry of Education analysis of 2006 SCI (Science Citation Index) articles, Yonsei was ranked 106th worldwide with a total of 1,857 articles. In Korea, Seoul National University ranked first with 3,635 articles, with Yonsei University (1,857) and Sungkyunkwan University (1,566) following behind. Internationally, the top five were Harvard University (10,222), University of Tokyo (6,768), UCLA (5,864), University of Toronto (5,710), and University of Michigan (5,686). The SCI is an index of article citations provided annually by the Institute for Scientific Information of the U.S.A. A database of academic journals which are selected on a strict basis of academic influence is constructed and the citation information index of these journals is provided. Thus, the SCI is thought to be an important material index which shows the research and academic levels of universities. Yonsei University has set the goal of ranking in the SCI top 50 by 2010 and is making efforts to reach this goal through various projects including the Global 5-5-10 Project.
