Professor Seungwon Hwang

Selected for ‘Outstanding Collaborator Award’

 

 

The Microsoft Research Center has named Yonsei computer scientist, Professor Seungwon Hwang, one of its Outstanding Collaborators for 2016. Marking its twenty-fifth anniversary, the Microsoft Research Center selected thirty-two influential researchers from around the globe. Of the three researchers chosen from Asia, Professor Hwang is the only one from Korea.

 

Since 2003, Professor Hwang has collaborated with Microsoft Research Centers in the U.S. and China; in particular, she worked with four different teams on big data projects, which resulted in international academic publications with other Microsoft researchers. In all, Professor Hwang has authored over fifty articles in international journals.

 

Professor Hwang’s collaborative work with the Microsoft Research Center has also included training and mentoring students at Yonsei. Because of her work, Yonsei graduate students have participated in internships at Microsoft Research Centers in the U.S. and China, and several of these students have won Microsoft Research Center Asia Fellowships. 

 

Currently, Professor Hwang is working to implement research collaboration in the undergraduate curriculum. To this end, she has developed a curriculum on coding cloud and Operating System (OS), distributing the contents worldwide through open source software.
