Severance Hospital Ranks Top
for 5th Consecutive Year in NCSI

-High Marks Due to “Consideration” and “Safety”

For the fifth consecutive year, Severance Hospital has been rated Korea’s top hospital in the National Customer Satisfaction Index (NCSI). The high level of patient satisfaction, according to Dr. Yoon Do-heum, president and CEO of Severance Hospital, is due to the emphasis upon consideration and safety throughout the Severance system. “Consideration,” he said, “starts from a basic mindset and attitude towards others. It is the act of thinking about and responding to what patients and their loved ones need.” Dr. Yoon added: “As safety has been a big issue for Korean hospitals, Severance has endeavored to solve safety problems by collaborating with the Joint Commission International (JCI). We are the first hospital in Korea to take these steps.”

Some of Severance’s key innovations in improving safety and convenience include a nurse education program and a streamlined patient discharge process. Employee satisfaction has also been enhanced through vitamin coupons, coffee service, and an initiative promoting consideration and communication between different staff teams. And in order to ensure that Severance remains a “safe” hospital, significant attention has been given to preventing the spread of infections.

Dr. Yoon also stressed that Severance’s goal is to ensure that “patients do not experience inconvenience at any stage of their visit, whether during registration, treatment, or discharge.” Other actions taken to improve comfort and convenience include expanding the number of vehicle entrances to the hospital, remodeling each ward, and minimizing wait times. Currently, the “Woori Lounge” is under construction; when finished, it will provide a pleasant cultural space and resting area for patients and their visitors.

Hospital Fulfills Its Social Responsibilities

In the spirit of its founders, Severance continues to fulfill its social obligations by donating its services, manpower, and knowledge both locally and overseas. Two of its recent service projects include providing free medical services for patients in North Korea and the “Seum” project, which operates a free medical clinic for members of the community who are in need.
