Kim Bo-mi Has been Appointed as a Professor at College of Music

The first female conductor of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, Kim Bo-mi, has been appointed as a new professor in the Yonsei College of Music. The Vienna Boys’ Choir was established by the Habsburg Emperor Maximilian I in 1498; as boys, the famous composers Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert sang with the choir. Professor Kim was named conductor in 2012.

In addition to being the first woman to lead the Vienna Boys’ Choir, she is also the first Korean to hold the position. Under her direction, the choir has performed more than 100 times, at such prestigious venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Symphony Hall, Suntory Hall Japan, Vienna Golden Hall, and Berlin Concert House. In 2013, Professor Kim was awarded the Ortner Preis, recognizing the most outstanding choral conductor in Austria.

Professor Kim majored in choral conducting at Yonsei, graduating in 2002. She later studied at the College of Catholic Church Music and Musical Education in Regensburg Germany. In 2010, she began doctoral work at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
