LPGA Golfer and Yonsei Alumna Yoo So-yeon Establishes Scholarship

-Will Support Two Students Each Year

Yonsei graduate and current LPGA golfer Yoo So-yeon has established a scholarship through the College of Physical Education. The Yoo So-yeon Scholarship will support two students each year and will be awarded for as long as Yoo remains a player on the LPGA tour.

“Many golfers,” said Yoo, “find it hard to go to school as well as play golf. However, thanks to my friends while I was an undergraduate here, I was able to successfully finish my studies. I would like this scholarship to support mentoring that will enable student athletes to finish their schooling.” The College of Physical Education runs the “Student Athlete Mentoring System” for its students; this program relies upon general Yonsei students who serve as mentors and tutors for student athletes, helping them with their schoolwork and providing mental and emotional support. The college’s support system also includes a number of group activities, such as picnics, retreats, and attending sporting events.

Yoo has a total of sixteen wins in her professional career, including three on the LPGA tour and eight with the KLPGA. While continuing to play on the LPGA tour, she plans to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
