Professor Jaehong Key and Research Team Develops 
New Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Method Using Nanoparticles

A research team that includes Yonsei Biomedical Engineering Professor Jaehong Key has developed a new nanoparticle technology that has proven effective in detecting and targeting miniscule, malignant tumors in mice. Their research could have important implications for diagnosing and treating various cancers, particularly in terms of bioimaging, biosensors, and medicine delivery systems.

The research results were published in the December 22 issue of ACS Nano, with the title “Soft Discoidal Polymeric Nanoconstructs Resist Macrophage Uptake and Enhance Vascular Targeting in Tumors.” According to the authors: “Our results could boost the interest in using less conventional delivery systems for cancer theranosis,” or cancer treatments that are simultaneously diagnostic and therapeutic.
