UIC Students Visit Australia for Design Factory Korea Study Tour 2016

On January 15~22, seven students from Underwood International College (UIC), Yonsei University, went to Melbourne, Australia, for a week-long study tour organized by Design Factory Korea (DFK), Swinburne Design Factory (SDF) and Cisco.

Cisco gave the students a project entitled, “Exploring Online Communication Platforms in Educational Environment: A Case Study of Cisco’s Spark Application.” The students worked in teams to conduct project research and development, market and competitor analysis, and application assessment.

On the last day, each of the teams introduced their ideas and explained the functionalities of the application prototype at the final presentation held at Cisco Australia. Representatives of Cisco, who attended the presentation, praised all of teams for their ability to produce quality output in such a short time.

The study tour was a collaborative program designed by DFK and SDF, both members of the Design Factory Global Network, with the aim to exchange ideas and expertise, and offer a great opportunity to students. Being a long-time partner of SDF, Cisco agreed to take part as the corporate partner in this endeavor. Cisco provided the project as well as corporate advice and feedback to the participants.

A lot of preparation went into the study tour, including a pre-workshop held at DFK and Cisco’s Global Center of Excellence headquarters, both located in Songdo.

The study tour drew students from various backgrounds – product design, information and interaction design, international studies, political science, technology management and engineering – among others. Alongside funding provided by UIC, the students received financial support from ICONS and Yonsei Institute of Convergence worth 1 million won.

Impressed by our students’ talent and potential, Cisco Korea contacted DFK after the study tour to encourage students to apply to their traineeship program.
