The Yonsei University Concert Choir was awarded the Grand Prize at the 54th International Choral Singing Competition Seghizzi in Gorizia, Italy. The competition was held from July 24 to 27, and the Yonsei Choir took first place in both classic and non-classic choral singing.

Prior to the Seghizzi competition, the Yonsei choir placed second at the Musica Sacra International Festival and Competition in Rome on July 11. While in Rome, the choir also gave a gala concert in St. Peter’s Basilica at the invitation of the Vatican. The singers were given an enthusiastic reception at this concert, particularly for their renditions of traditional Korean melodies such as “Arirang” and “Ongheya.”

The Yonsei University Concert Choir was formed in 1964 under the leadership of Professor Gwak Sang-su, and the choir continues to play an important role in spreading Korean music internationally. Since 2006, Professor Kim Hye-ok has conducted the choir, leading the singers at international performances and competitions in Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, America, Japan, and other nations. The choir also participates in several educational and cultural exchanges with partners from around the world.
