Overview
General Information
Yonsei University provides mainly three types of financial aids to its students: ¨ç University scholarship ¨è private funding and scholarships ¨é student loan. ¨ç University scholarship consists of 15 types of scholarships, such as college scholarships for each college and hanmaum (needs-based) scholarship. ¨è The University also provides connections to more than 270 private funding sources and scholarships. ¨é There are also various student loan programs available to Yonsei students.

University Support
Yonsei University is continuing to provide a variety of financial aids to allow its students to pursue their goals, regardless of their economic circumstances. The faculty and staff are putting much effort into expanding the variety of programs and increasing the total size of the financial aid budget, as well as developing new financial support programs.

Applying for General Scholarships

Students must complete the application (available at http://portal.yonsei.ac.kr ¡æ Academic Information System ¡æ Log In ¡æ Scholarship ¡æ Scholarship Application) and submit it with the required documents (certificate of local tax payment per item, receipt for earned income tax withholding, certificate of local health insurance payment and other supporting documents) to their respective colleges.

Both parents (or legal guardians) must submit all required documents. (* Students who exceed a certain amount of semesters, as determined by each college, are ineligible.)

Types of Scholarships
University Designated Scholarship

Students who completed 12 or more credits in their previous semester and whose accumulative average GPA is 2.50 or higher are eligible for scholarships based on financial needs or academic achievement. Scholarship opportunities and information are posted on the bulletin boards of the university's homepage, Yonsei Educational Broadcasting Station (YBS), Yonsei Chunchu and in each college. Students must receive a letter of recommendation from the Dean of their college of affiliation or departmental office before the beginning of final exams.

Academic Award

First-year students who excel in a specific field are eligible to receive a full scholarship that includes tuition, textbooks and a special mentoring program.

Yonsei Alumni Scholarship

Students who study in the basic education field or have passed the first part of a national examination are eligible for a full scholarship and an extra payment of 500,000 won, depending on their grades and financial needs.

Yonsei Special Awards

Recipients are nominated when admitted according to the qualifications stated in the undergraduate prospectus of that year.

Eagle Scholarship

A first-year student who is in the top 3% of their entering class and completes at least 12 credits in the previous semester while maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive a full tuition scholarship until graduation.

VSP Scholarship

Students who are nominated and stud y abroad through the Visiting Student Program can receive financial support.

Volunteer's Scholarship

This scholarship is given to students who contribute to the university by serving on the student body council or other student-run organizations.

Peace Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to student reporters of Yonsei Chunchu and Yonsei Educational Broadcasting Station (YBS) .

Student Council Co-Op Scholarship

A student who has subscribed to Consumer's Cooperation (Co-Op) and whose GPA is 2.50 or higher is eligible for a need-based scholarship given by the Co-Op every semester.

Athletic Scholarship

This scholarship is given to outstanding athletes.

Theology Scholarship

Upon the recommendation of the Dean of the College of Theology , a scholarship is awarded to a student who wishes to become a pastor.

Working Student Scholarship

A pplicants who are selected by the Department of Student Welfare scholarship board may receive a scholarship each semester if they work in a designated department of the university.

Fund Scholarship

There are currently over 250 scholarships that are funded by alumni or individual sponsors, including Congress Yonsei, Yonsei Lions, Venerable Cho Yo Han, Lee Jong Heup, Park Jung Ok and Baek Hak, and given to students according to the criteria determined by the sponsor.

External Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded based upon the university's recommendation to an external scholarship foundation or an individual. Over 145 external scholarships exist, including the Kwanjeong Lee Jong Hwan Educational Foundation, Dongbu Cultural Foundation, Lotte Scholarship Foundation, Bang Il-Young Foundation, Altwell Mincho Scholarship Foundation and Songwon Scholarship Foundation.

Scholarship Shinmoongo

Starting from 2006, students can e-mail a request based upon their financial difficulties to scholar@yonsei.ac.kr, and the university selects eligible students and grants needs-based University Designated Scholarships.
