Introduction

In 2007, separated from the College of Humanities and Arts, the College of Science and Technology became established to promote the education and research in the areas of natural and applied science and technology. The college is located in Changjo Building in Wonju (Maeji) Campus, and is composed of three divisions and seven departments including the Division of Natural Sciences, the Division of Applied Sciences, and the Division of Computer and Telecommunication Engineering.

Our nationally renowned 50 faculty members have been actively involved in various educational and research projects in local and national levels. As the university knowledge is becoming more essential to a nation's competitive power for the epoch of globalization and information, the College of Science and Technology is focusing on playing leading roles in the education and research in the areas of natural and applied science and technology. The college's goals are to nurture leaders with creativity and scientific reasoning, and eventually to become a leading institution to contribute to the future development of the science and technology in Korea.

Division of Natural Sciences

The Division of Natural Sciences has five departments: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Information and Statistics. With fully qualified professors, the college focuses on developing human resources of good quality by providing research and education of each fundamental science. Each department of the division has facilities and resources usable at any time.

Division of Applied Sciences

The Division of Applied Sciences has two departments: Biological Resources and Technology, and Packaging. The objective of the Division of Applied Sciences is to provide education and research on application of various resources in biological sciences and packaging sciences. The Department of Biological Resources and Technology focuses on teaching and research on industrialization of the three major resources of animals, plants and microorganisms. The Department of Packaging focuses on teaching and research on development of packaging technology applicable to the industry.

Division of Computer and Telecommunication Engineering

Computer and Telecommunications Engineering Division is composed of computer engineering area and telecommunications engineering area. The objective of our division is teaching and researching in the computer and telecommunication technology area, considered as one of the most promising technology area in the 21th century. Subjects taught and researched in the computer engineering area include computer hardware, system software, programming languages, computer network, artificial intelligence, supercomputer applications, internet computing. Subjects taught in the telecommunications area include engineering mathematics, signals and system, physical and MAC layer in telecommunication systems, mobile communications, computer network, network programming, speech and image processing, digital signal processing, multi-media communications, image communication, multimedia system, real-time system, embedded system, satellite and broadband communications. In addition, there exist a close collaboration between the two areas.
