Curriculum in the Department of Composition emphasizes comprehensive musical training that allows students to develop their own compositional skills. Introductory courses for the first two years give students broad exposure to various compositional styles.

During the junior and senior years, students are encouraged to cultivate their creativity under the department's requirements. They are also encouraged to work in an electronic music studio to sharpen their skills to up-to-date technology of modern music.

Since performing composers' works are a priority at Yonsei, students are required to present at least two works in each academic year at the weekly recitals. Many distinguished composers are invited to give seminars, providing students with opportunities for first-hand experience in various compositional styles.
