Psychology is an empirical science that studies human behavior and its internal processes. As a science, psychology is rapidly developing and provides the basis for study in various academic fields: liberal arts, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, the performing arts, etc. In other words, all fields that study human beings require, directly or indirectly, an understanding of psychology. The study of psychology has evolved into several sub-disciplines, namely, physiological psychology, sensation and perception, cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence, cognitive science, sensation and emotion technology, etc. Furthermore, applications of general psychology have been successfully made in the study of advertisement, organizational behavior, clinical psychology, counseling, education, human development, adjustment, criminology, psychological testing, consumer behavior, etc. Research methodology is very important in the study of psychology, whether general or applied.
With rapid advancements in technology and civilization, the issues concerning the quality of living are becoming more and more critical. These issues cannot be considered without first considering the basic factors that constitute the science of psychology: sensation, perception, thought, personality, intelligence, and aptitude. Important as it is, psychology is also worth studying for its own sake, for human nature is a very interesting subject. |
