Introduction

The goals of studying history are to recover and reconstruct the past and to make it meaningful to the present. In observance of these goals, the Department of History offers a hands-on education that not only provides a broad curriculum of theories and surveys of history, but also fieldwork at historical sites. The Department offers courses in three broad concentrations: Korean history, Asian history, and the history of the West. The courses cover all ages, from ancient society to the present, and provide connections with politics, economics, society, culture, and ideology. In addition, the Department offers up-to-date theories and research methodologies, as well as practical studies in archival science and museology.
