Biomedical Laboratory Science(BMLS) is a branch of medical sciences focusing on the of laboratory diagnostic performances. The curriculum of BMLS for four school years allows students to integrate theories of life sciences and clinical sciences with the practice of clinical laboratory procedures. In the first two years, students learn fundamental concepts and theories in Microbiology, Parasitology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Radiology, and Molecular Biology. In the next two years, they learn theories and skills in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology/Molecular Diagnostics, Pathology, Virology and Clinical Microbiology, in depth. The four-year course develops and trains future laboratory personnel with the ability to use modern equipment and perform scientific techniques, which aim to provide medical data that the physician can use in assessing the clinical diagnosis of the patient. Senior students will have chance to practice basic concepts and skills as they participate in the internship program provided by the clinical laboratories in major medical centers, such as two different Yonsei Medical Centers at Shinchin and Youngdong in Seoul and in Wonju, Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, Aju Medical Center in Suwon, and so on. Since these laboratories are among the best reference and research laboratories in Korea, students will have a valuable opportunity to work with a variety of the most updated equipments and test procedures. Students graduating from this program will receive a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biomedical Laboratory Science from Yonsei University. Graduates will then be eligible to take the national certifying examinations in medical technology and clinical laboratory science.
