The College of Health Sciences was established in 1979 at the Yonsei University Medical College, Wonju Campus, as the Department of Health Sciences, the first of its kind in the country. Later, in October, 1982, the medical section of Wonju College was granted independent status and became the Wonju Medical College. The Health Science section then became a department of the Medical College, and the majors were divided into five specialized sections, such as Public Health Administration, Environmental Science, Medical Technology, Rehabilitation Medicine Technology, and Medical Engineering. Thereby, it was providing broader and firmer advances for health services.

In October 1986, it was becoming increasingly important in many professional areas to meet the needs of the huge public health field. The Ministry of Education granted approval for elevation of the department to the status of an independent College of Health Sciences, the only one in the country. Thus, the five basic specialties of Health Administration, Environmental Science, Medical Technology, Rehabilitation, and Medical Engineering (changed in 1992 to Biomedical Engineering) became independent departments. In October 1988, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health was established (changed in 1994 to Industrial Environment and Health). And also in March 1998, the Department of Health Science for third and fourth grade was established in Health Administration, Rehabilitation, and Medical Technology. In March 2002, the Department of Radiological Science was established as one of the 1st 4 year program in radiological science in Korea.

Now, the College of Health Sciences has become a qualified pioneer in the public health field, able to contribute to the nation and to society by training leaders in each of these specialized fields. Lectures and laboratory practice give depth for the specialized and broad education needed to produce leaders who are to play a central role in the public health field. Degrees offered by the College of Health Sciences include undergraduate degrees; the graduate degree of Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in all departments.
