The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering was formed in March 2002 from the Departments of Electrical Engineering (est. 1950), Electronic Engineering (est. 1969), and Radiowave Engineering (est. 1992), and has strived for international research competitiveness in all areas of electrical/electronic and radiowave engineering and diversity in engineering education.
Our School's Institute of Telecommunication, Multimedia, & SOC (TMS) Information Technology is funded by the Brain Korea 21 Program sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, and in 2009, has become an internationally recognized research institute by establishing global research potential by accumulating international research results. In addition, we are focusing on educating outstanding engineers to be leaders for national growth through an ABEEK accredited academic program.
As a result, as of 2010, 58 faculty members, as well as numerous researchers and staff, are involved in educating and in research with 1300 undergraduate and 700 graduate students under a clear educational goal. Also, more than 7000 alumni are active in domestic and international institutes in the information technology field.
We also plan to widen research into other fields that can benefit from information technology, such as medicine, finance, energy, nanotechnology, etc., to strengthen our position as a leader in information technology research by collaboration with diverse institutions such as academia, research laboratories, and industry, as well as in education of engineers and in research.
In the future, in addition to leading in engineering and technology, we plan to further strive to educate leading engineers based on Christian spirit according to the founding principles of Yonsei University, to guide graduating students to become upstanding engineering leaders of the world.
