Established in 2000, the Yonsei Graduate School of Communication and Arts is dedicated to advanced research and education in arts, visual culture and communication. We offer advanced study leading to MA, MFA, Ph.D and DFA degrees, with a firm commitment to the integration of theory and practice. Our educational goal is to foster a comprehensive, in-depth understanding and reinvention of culture and arts. We value originality and vision, and our curriculum embraces interdisciplinary approaches to education.

The school's mission is to produce professionals who are able to apply the knowledge and techniques of communication and arts to cultural production, address contemporary cultural problems and perform research on cultural issues. The school also aims to become a professional research institute dealing with media and culture-related policies.

The school's programs are designed for students who are interested in utilizing various communication tools as media for personal exploration. The school includes four programs for Masters degrees and two for Doctoral degrees, and at certain points, the programs work in conjunction with each other. All the school's resources are available to all the students. Students are encouraged to have open minds, constantly questioning traditional boundaries, assumptions and aims.

We offer a large number and a wide variety of courses each semester. Most classes limit the number of students to seven or eight, which enables participants to enjoy a high-quality education. Besides the school's full-time professors, there are also lecturers, professionals who are experts in their particular fields.

Our students work within a full array of styles and genres in a wide range of media. A significant number of students have already established professional credentials and careers as artists, producers, educators, designers and scholars. Since the school emphasizes creativity and general knowledge of liberal arts, rather than being limited to techniques and skills, graduates tend to work as high-end professionals in colleges, art and design companies, or cultural industries.

One of our immediate goals is to establish the school as the leading research institute in visual art and culture. Currently, we house a number of media-related research centers and production facilities. The Research Lab for Culture and Contents, a sub-division of the Yonsei Research Institute of Communication, has produced valuable research on media, art and cultural policies. The Game Research Center, a government grant recipient, has been conducting a number of in-depth studies on cultural contents.
