Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine celebrated its 28th anniversary in 2006 and continues to put efforts in education, research, and treatment which are the original mission of the medical school based on the protestant foundation spirit.
The school opened in March 1978 after receiving approval in December 1977 with the first medical center and parental hospital, Wonju Christian Hospital and Yonsei University medical school. It has medicine major which is a 6 year integrated program that premed and regular courses merged together. It also has nursing, special degree course for nursing degree (night course), and dental hygiene which was approved in 2002 as the first 4-year program for this major in Korea. The goal of medicine major is to research about modern medicine as well as to educate intellectuals who will contribute to the development of Korean medicine through voluntary medical services with the protestant spirit.
Especially, the school operates efficient education programs by using Wonju Christian Hospital which is the affiliate hospital for early clinical training. We have 146 full-time professors who are responsible for lecture, research, and treatment. The nursing major was established in 1994. It is the first 4-year nursing education institution in Gangwon area. It educates future nurses who have professional knowledge and leadership. The special degree program for nursing (night course) was established in 1997. It provides current professional knowledge and skills for nurses who graduated from 2-year nursing college and want to receive a bachelor’s degree. In 2002, dental hygiene major was established. It is the first 4-year program for dental hygiene in Korea. It provides systematic education to train professionals and future professors. Its goal is to improve people’s dental health. It contributes to the development of dental medicine academy in Korea and growing up as one of the best medical education institute with reputations.
We have the homeroom teacher system which is a unique system of Wonju College of Medicine. With this system, a teacher is in charge of one or two students in each class year and provides guidance and counseling until the student is graduated from the school. This is an outstanding tradition only in Wonju College of Medicine.
Recently, we have career medical lab, basic medical lab, women’s health nursing center, and hair and cosmetic medical lab as research center on about 12,000 pyeong of total area with college building (3,368pyeong), general hall (2,306pyeong), and student dormitory (2,128pyeong) that could accommodate 580 students. The number of accumulated graduates was 3,008 in 2006. |

We have two student dormitory buildings. The first dorm has a basement with four floors on the ground with 1,024 pyeong size. The basic room is consisted of two beds in a room and 238 students are living here. The second dorm was completed in October 1997. It has five floors on the ground. The first floor is cafeteria. The second and third floors have 50 rooms for male students. The fourth and fifth floors have 54 rooms for female students. Each floor has a lounge that students can watch TV or read newspapers and magazines. There’s reading room in the basement for students to study. They could also exercise freely in the fitness room that is equipped with latest devices.
Each floor has bathroom, washroom, restroom, and washing machine with drier free of charge. All rooms are equipped with LAN and all students in the dorm can utilize information from network using the internet.
The total capacity of first and second dorm buildings is 578 which is the largest among 41 medical school dorms in the country. Most students from outside the neighborhood could live in the dorm. |

| Nursing |
| The goal of nursing major is to educate professional nurses who help people protect, recover, maintain, and promote health with the protestant spirit which is the education idea of Yonsei University. It is the first 4-year nursing education institution in Gangwon area that has been established to raise up manpower in nursing who have professional knowledge with leadership. We had 50 new students first in 1994. The nursing major has close relationship with Yonsei University nursing major and provide instructions by excellent professor for academic development. The nursing major provide curriculum for professional and comprehensive health management in accordance with the needs for health management system in the 21st century. Students also have wide range of quality training experiences in Yonsei Severance Hospital, Youngdong Severance Hospital, local public health care organization, school, industry, elderly facility as well as Wonju Christian Hospital. The students work at general hospital, health care center, infirmaries in companies or school as nurse or at public sector immediately after graduation. They are initiative for development of health care systemin with knowledge and skill in nursing and performs in community and medical institutions as professionals. They also continue their study in graduate school to become the leader of nursing education. |

| Registered Nurses - Bachelor in Science of Nursing(RN-BSN) |
| The nursing major in Wonju College of Medicine has 2-year special degree course (transfer from other nursing school, night class). This is a professional continuous education program for nurses who already graduated from 3-year nursing school and has work at clinical field to provide them a bachelor’s degree. The program provides the latest professional knowledge in nursing and training ability in studying and researching. The goal of this program is to cultivate student’s role as the leader through self-directed learning and competency-based instruction that they could act positively and actively in learning and promote their intellectual curiosity, properly response to social change, communication, problem solving ability, critical thinking, creative thinking, and integration ability. |

| Dental Hygiene |
| Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine has approved to have the first 4-year dental hygiene major in Korea. The beginning was operating dental hyginene program in medical skill training center in Yonsie University in 1965. Nowadays, there are 27 2-year colleges with this major but this is the first 4-year program. Our goal is to cultivate leaders in dental hygiene field for future professors and professionals in mouth health. We are implementing the core role in development of people’s mouth health as well as dental hygiene study and dentistry.
The dental hygiene major has excellent professor and latest facilities. We operate in-depth curriculum with systematic basic education and professional clinical training. Students will work at university, lag, dental hospital, public general hospital, private dental office, public medical institution, or education institution with important role as leader.
Wonju College of Medicine is leading the true education based on the education idea of Yonsei University with clear education goals. We also have good counseling and facilities to help students to decide their future career. Students also can meet and exchange information with seniors and alumni in the training hospital. Christian Hospital, the affiliated hospital has 840 sickbed and considered as the number one hospital in middle area. It provides training opportunities for all students who wish to get trained. |
