| The Department of German Language and Literature is concerned with German linguistics and literature. It also involves culture study, area study, and comparative literature, aiming at connection with adjoined studies.
The department was established in 1972, and is acknowledged as the one which has achieved the most remarkable growth in its short history. It owes its success to the academic spirits of its students and the eagerness of its professors who have returned to Korea after long years of study in Germany. These professors are recognized as the highest authorities within the country, and are setting up a new academic tradition through their ambitious pursuit of studies. Moreover, the department holds seminars and presentations every semester with famous scholars and writers invited from Germany, with the intention to reach the international academic level.
Since 1981, students have been able to attend lectures by native speakers sent by DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) as visiting professors. The department has an audio-visual room with TVs, videos and computer systems donated by Germany, so it is possible for students to use the Internet and watch satellite broadcasting. Students can also make use of study rooms stocked with technical books and dictionaries. |
